Stricker/Hurkacz wins inaugural doubles tournament in Saudi Arabia

That is a historic day for tennis in Saudi Arabia! Dominic Stricker (Switzerland) and Hubert Hurkacz from Poland are the winners of the first professional doubles tournament in the kingdom. After their victory in the semis against Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the pairing defeated Matteo Berrettini and Andrey Rublev in the final on Saturday 7-6, 4-6, 10:7.

Both players earn 250.000 US-Dollars for their win in the Diriyah Arena. It was a real tight affair between “Strickaz” and “Rublettini”. In the first set only the tie-break separated the two parties, but then Rublev/Berrettini fought back and won the second set. In a thrilling match-tiebreak both teams played their best tennis. Especially Stricker and Hurkacz served really well and grabbed up the trophy at the end.

All players really enjoyed the great support from the audience: “It was amazing for me to play in front of you guys and to share the court with three amazing tennis players, that I’m looking up for”, Stricker said after the final. “It was really fun to play Dominic, he played really amazing. He will gonna be a top player really soon. It was a lof of fun, we had some really nice exchanges. It was my first time in Saudi and I really enjoyed it.”

“It’s been a pleasure, playing in fron t of you. Opefully not the last time. It´s been an unbelievable week for me. I´m looking forward to come back next year”, Berrettini mentioned. “It was a high level match and I think you enjoyed it. That’s the most important thing. Thank you for inviting me”, Rublev added.
